Hi Rob,
Using ShopSite's ordering options is a great suggestion. It isn't intrusive and it's easy to implement. ShopSite has a video tutorial for ordering options at http://www.shopsite.com/tutorial/products-orderingoptions.htm. Thanks for commenting!

Great post Mike! Effective use of cross-sell / upsell can really boost the bottom line. It's important to dig through your sales to see what customers are actually buying together. Using a tool like Google Analytics or sorting in Excel can help spot trends and offer better upsell opportunities.

Another simple upsell method is to use a product's ordering options to offer dropdown upsell (i.e. batteries with an electronic device, shoelaces with a shoe, etc...) items.

In the cart, don't overdo the product / global upsell items. Use them sparingly, keep them in their own section (maybe down the right hand column) so you do not overly distract a potential buyer from completing their purchase.
